Gary and I just got our first pets! Although we hoped to get a dog, hammies will do! His sister asked if we wanted one. Turns out that her friend’s hamster had babies and was giving them away. So Gary and I decided to get two girls. I decided to name them Nana and Hachi. I named them after Yazawa Ai’s main characters in her ongoing manga, Nana (one of my favorites). I have Hachi and Gary has Nana. They are Teddy Bear Hamsters (Syrian) so of course they had to be separated after we got them. Kind of like how it currently is in the manga, huh? Eh.. might have spoiled it for some. Sorry! *cringes*
Anyway. It’s nice having them around. Gary and I are nocturnal creatures ourselves so we have a chance to play and watch them throughout the night/early morning. It’s a learning experience. I noticed that Hachi would chew on the cage and had to figure out how to stop her from doing that. I had to rearrange the cage layout to fit her wheel in a different area and also fed her some dog biscuits. I had to try the dog biscuits because she wasn’t too fond of wood chews or the mineral sticks. I haven’t asked Gary if Nana improved from cage chewing, but I know she likes the mineral stick.
I was also worried how the hammies would do around our boss’ dogs. We’re dogsitting them again for the week and so far, so good. It’s like they don’t even notice each others presence… unless they were directly in front of each other. *sigh* I like having the dogs around. But it makes me sad because I really want to have my own. Gary and I have been looking for a Corgi, but they seems so rare to find around the Hampton Roads area. We really want to adopt/rescue and we found some, but it seems like they’re always up in Northern Virginia. We’ll see what happens.
